Imagine Futures is a socially engaged photography project (that inherited its name from the Imagine Futures CiC that promotes it). Aimed at both older and younger people, it develops a creative space to discuss the future that could have been and the future that people want for their community, engaging participants in celebrating heritage while increasing their voice and sense of agency.
It draws on archival photography, visual art techniques (collage) and photovoice. It is also inspired by the Imagine Futures workshop methodology (Climate Museum UK), the Future Views toolkit (Bridget McKenzie) and The Failure of the Future podcast (Johnny Pitts). It engages participants through regular face-to-face sessions where they're presented with exercises. At the end, participants will publicly exhibit the 'new photographs'.
Each session is an opportunity to analyse archive footage, learn about futurism, discuss desired futures and create images that reveal this new reality.
Imagine Futures brings together a local archive, library or museum, community participants and an arts organisation to design the future we all want.
